¿Humor Sapiens?

Humor Sapiens se originó en 2005 como una editorial con sede en Montevideo, Uruguay. Fundada por Pepe Pelayo, Alex Pelayo, Freddy Reigía y Mireya Silva, publicó diez títulos dirigidos a público infantil, juvenil y adulto, y organizó concursos, talleres y ferias culturales en Uruguay, Chile y Argentina.

En 2009 se creó la Fundación Humor Sapiens, con sede en Chile, como un proyecto familiar autogestionado. A partir de entonces, amplió sus actividades al ámbito digital, educativo, artístico y académico.

En 2013 se lanzó el sitio web humorsapiens.com, que se consolidó como una plataforma de referencia para el estudio y la divulgación del humor. En 2023 celebró su décimo aniversario, ocasión en la que recibió mensajes de reconocimiento de más de 70 colegas de 20 países.

• El bufón ilustrado (2021–2022): serie documental en video con 45 humoristas de 13 países.
• Concurso Internacional de Humor Gráfico 2024: convocado desde Chile, con la participación de 351 artistas de 65 países.
• Charlas y conferencias: sobre educación, salud, mundo laboral y desarrollo personal, con enfoque humorístico.
• Concierto lector: espectáculos dirigidos a la promoción de la lectura infantil mediante el humor.
• Programa “Gracias por leer”: cursos integrados de fomento lector con enfoque humorístico.
• Vis a vis con la vis cómica: serie de más de 200 entrevistas a humoristas y académicos, publicadas en el sitio y recopiladas en cuatro libros.
• Humor Sapiens Ediciones: publicación de libros de y sobre humor.
• Premio Internacional Humor Sapiens: Distinción que se le otorga anualmente a una persona y a una institución destacada en el estudio, en la investigación o la promoción del humor.

Identity

It is a cultural and independent website, founded in 2013, dedicated to the study, reflection and dissemination of humor as a human, artistic and social phenomenon. The project addresses humor from an interdisciplinary perspective, integrating theoretical, pedagogical, creative and communicational approaches, and is aimed at researchers, teachers, artists and the general public interested in humor as a tool for knowledge and quality of life, beyond immediate entertainment.

 

Objectives

• Explore and promote humor as a vital attitude and response of the human being, understood as a factor for personal growth, emotional well-being and quality of life.
• Analyze and promote humor as an expressive, communicational and pedagogical resource in its diverse manifestations: literary, graphic, stage, audiovisual, academic and educational.
• Foster intelligent and healing humor in areas such as art, education, health and workplace relations, providing useful tools and reflections for individuals and institutions.
• Consolidate humorsapiens.com as an independent space with a universal vocation and a defined editorial profile, focused exclusively on the study and practice of humor.
• Turn the site into a place of consultation and reference for specialists, researchers and people interested in humor, through updated, rigorous and accessible content.
• Create a space for encounter, analysis and debate on humor from aesthetic, philosophical, psychological and sociocultural perspectives.
• Promote academic and artistic creation activities and projects that foster high‑quality humorous production.
• Develop and maintain a specialized, coherent and recognizable editorial line dedicated to humor as a field of reflection and creation.

Founders and Editors of HumorSapiens.com

Pepe Pelayo (Matanzas, Cuba, 1952; resident in Chile since 1991) is a civil engineer, writer, scriptwriter, comedian, theater director and graphic humorist. He has published more than 80 books by and about humor in Latin America and has received more than 30 awards and distinctions in various international venues. He was co‑founder of the La Seña del Humor company in Cuba. He is a member of the International Society for Humor Studies (ISHS), the Network for Research and Humor Studies (RIEH‑Chile), the International Committee of Humor Festivals and the Political Council of the Cartoonists of the Global Village collective.

Alex Pelayo (Matanzas, Cuba, 1977; resident in Spain since 2015) is an illustrator, visual artist and graphic and digital designer. He studied at the Vocational School of Art in Matanzas and obtained a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Chile. He has illustrated more than 60 books published in America and Europe and has won international awards for design, illustration and graphic humor. He is co‑author of the creative duo Pelayos.

 

History

Humor Sapiens originated in 2005 as a publishing house based in Montevideo, Uruguay. Founded by Pepe Pelayo, Alex Pelayo, Freddy Reigía and Mireya Silva, it published ten titles aimed at child, youth and adult audiences, and organized contests, workshops and cultural fairs in Uruguay, Chile and Argentina.

In 2009 the Fundación Humor Sapiens was created, based in Chile, as a self‑managed family project. From then on, it expanded its activities into the digital, educational, artistic and academic fields.

In 2013 the website humorsapiens.com was launched, which has consolidated itself as a reference platform for the study and dissemination of humor. In 2023 it celebrated its tenth anniversary, on which occasion it received messages of recognition from more than 70 colleagues from 20 countries.
