“La fotografía es básicamente un juego para mí y creo que esa es la mejor manera de describirlo: juego a la fotografía callejera, y me fijo en la ciudad, su gente, sus letreros, una sombra, un árbol o alguna basura… cualquier cosa puede ser un buen tema si es visto con la mirada curiosa” –dice Pau Buscató-, un catalán que estudió arquitectura en Barcelona, y que a finales de los años noventa se trasladó a Oslo, capital de Noruega, donde realizó una estancia dentro del programa Erasmus, en un alto centro docente de ese país escandinavo, y al que regresó posteriormente por la crisis en España, y ahí reside desde el 2009.
En la ciudad noruega de Bergen, abandonó su trabajo en una empresa de arquitectura e ingeniería, pues a pesar de estar bien pagado, no era feliz con su labor, y decidió lanzarse al camino de la fotografía.
“Trabajé como arquitecto durante unos 10 años y estoy seguro de que me ha influido como fotógrafo, especialmente en lo que se refiere a la estética y el sentido de la composición. A menudo trabajé en el diseño de fachadas o en la creación de diseños de presentación para clientes, y siempre se requirió un fuerte sentido de la estética visual –declaró a la revista Museé.
Tras años de pruebas y experimentar con otros géneros, decidió que la fotografía de calle era su principal objetivo. Para él lo importante es captar la realidad cotidiana con su punto de vista, con su mirada entrenada en buscar mezclas, yuxtaposiciones de elementos, coincidencias mágicas, que le dan un carácter sorprendente y humorístico a las imágenes.
Establecer relaciones insospechadas entre seres y objetos es el meollo del asunto. Una idea, no es ni más ni menos que una nueva combinación de elementos viejos, y es esa condición, que con inteligencia y sagacidad, producto de su mente, Pau Buscató refleja en sus imágenes.
Pau ha descrito su fotografía como "un proceso muy abierto que exige una conciencia total y ojos frescos para ver las cosas ordinarias de nuestro día a día no solo por lo que son, sino también por lo que pueden convertirse cuando se fotografían. La vida cotidiana en la calle es la materia prima sobre la que suelo aplicar algunas pinceladas de imaginación y juego, para añadir una capa extra de humor, ambigüedad, ilógica, poesía...”.
Para Pau, esta observación creativa y búsqueda constante es apasionante. Él sale a la calle sin planes, sin fotos predeterminadas, sin rutas, solamente a caminar, mirar y seguir caminando, una y otra vez, dejando que lo guíen las imágenes en las calles, y cuando entonces ve algo que le interesa, surge inmediatamente el proceso instintivo de disparar con su cámara. Esta tarea exige mucho tiempo, y no siempre se logra el objetivo. “La ciudad –ha dicho- es mi patio de juegos, para mí, jugar es estar consciente del momento, pero al mismo tiempo estar abierto a lo que pueda suceder”.
La obra de este cazador de imágenes ratifica que la fotografía es el medio, que lo determinante es el ojo del fotógrafo, su rapidez con la cámara, su sentido del humor, y su capacidad poética, para compartir su visión personal de las cosas.
Sus fotos expuestas en Rusia, Barcelona, Noruega, Italia y Francia, y con premios alcanzados en Miami, Londres, San Francisco, Bruselas y otras ciudades, lo colocan en un lugar sobresaliente de la fotografía callejera.

“Photography is basically a game for me and I think that's the best way to describe it: I play street photography, and I look at the city, its people, its signs, a shadow, a tree or some garbage… anything it can be a good subject if it is seen with a curious gaze" -says Pau Buscató-, a Catalan who studied architecture in Barcelona, and who moved to Oslo, the capital of Norway, at the end of the 1990s, where he stayed at the Erasmus program, in a high school in that Scandinavian country, and to which he later returned due to the crisis in Spain, and has lived there since 2009.
In the Norwegian city of Bergen, he left his job in an architecture and engineering company, because despite being well paid, he was not happy with his work, and decided to embark on the path of photography.
“I worked as an architect for about 10 years and I'm sure it has influenced me as a photographer, especially when it comes to aesthetics and sense of composition. I often worked designing façades or creating presentation designs for clients, and it always required a strong sense of visual aesthetics,” he told Museé magazine.
After years of testing and experimenting with other genres, he decided that street photography was his main goal. For him, the important thing is to capture daily reality from his point of view, with his gaze trained to look for mixtures, juxtapositions of elements, magical coincidences, which give the images a surprising and humorous character.
Establishing unsuspected relationships between beings and objects is the heart of the matter. An idea is neither more nor less than a new combination of old elements, and it is that condition, which with intelligence and sagacity, the product of his mind, Pau Buscató reflects in his images.
Pau has described his photography as "a very open process that requires total awareness and fresh eyes to see the ordinary things of our day to day not only for what they are, but also for what they can become when photographed. Everyday life in the street is the raw material on which I usually apply some touches of imagination and play, to add an extra layer of humor, ambiguity, illogicality, poetry...”.
For Pau, this creative observation and constant search is exciting. He goes out into the street without plans, without predetermined photos, without routes, just to walk, look and keep walking, over and over again, letting the images in the streets guide him, and when he then sees something that interests him, he immediately comes up the instinctive process of shooting with your camera. This task requires a lot of time, and the objective is not always achieved. "The city -he said- is my playground, for me, playing is being aware of the moment, but at the same time being open to what might happen".
The work of this image hunter confirms that photography is the medium, that what is decisive is the eye of the photographer, his speed with the camera, his sense of humor, and his poetic ability to share his personal vision of things.
His photos exhibited in Russia, Barcelona, Norway, Italy and France, and with awards won in Miami, London, San Francisco, Brussels and other cities, place him in an outstanding place in street photography.
