Decimos esto, porque existe una ironía dramática, usada hasta en las tragedias, o también la llamada ironía socrática, que no estudiaremos aquí, ya que el objetivo final no es provocar la risa.
La ironía depende mucho de la calidad y complejidad de la elaboración con que se concibe. Por ello es que se relaciona tanto con la inteligencia, mucho más que otros formatos de burlas.
Históricamente se ha tergiversado mucho el concepto de ironía y a nivel popular se usa como una simple burla, llegando incluso a perder la característica en su significado de ser lo contrario de lo que se expresa.
Es frecuente escuchar o leer frases como: "la ironía del destino", "la ironía de la vida", etc. Por ejemplo, si uno ha querido algo toda la vida y nunca lo ha logrado y de repente lo consigue casi al final de su vida, eso se considera "ironía", ¿pero eso produce risa o sonrisa?
